Black magic pocket cinema camera7/10/2023 The new Blackmagic Camera 7.9 firmware update brings support for the BMPCC 6K G2 and adds the new software features of the new model, including an updated user interface, support for focus assist intensity adjustments via sliders, and improved lens and autofocus performance. According to Blackmagic, the BMPCC 6K G2 uses the same “generation 5 color science as the high-end URSA Mini Pro 12K,” promising even more accurate color, and you get a new “dynamic 12-bit gamma curve” that is designed to capture more color data in the highlights and shadows. Like both its predecessor and the “Pro” model, the new camera offers dual gain ISO up to 25,600 and a claimed dynamic range of 13 stops. The BMPCC 6K G2, as it’s called, features the same 6,144x3,456-pixel S35 sensor and Canon EF lens mount as the original BMPCC 6K, but boasts the “Pro” model’s brighter (1,500-nit) tilting 5-inch HDR touchscreen, higher-capacity NP-F550 battery, and support for the optional electronic viewfinder that works with the “Pro” model. Otherwise, the cameras look the same, which bodes well for future underwater housings that could potentially accommodate both standard and “Pro” models. The only apparent external difference is the pair of rear buttons to adjust the built-in motorized ND filter on the “Pro” version-the new model doesn’t have built-in ND filters. Blackmagic Design has announced the “second generation” of its Pocket Cinema Camera 6K, which is outwardly almost identical to its slightly more expensive big brother, the Pocket Cinema Camera 6K Pro.
